Unlocking Potential: Sarayu’s Coding Journey with Learning Links Foundation

‘Coding’ has become a popular trend among children, especially during the pandemic. But not all get this opportunity, especially those from low-income families. Learning Links Foundation noticed this gap and introduced the Solar Community Hub initiative in collaboration with Common Service Centers (CSC), aiming to bridge the digital divide.

Sarayu, a sixth-grade student from Andhra Pradesh, was one of the beneficiaries of this initiative. A regular school goer, the learning opportunities for students like her in remote areas were limited. Sarayu attended a two-week summer camp focusing on Coding and Block

programming. Having a laptop for the first time made her eyes light up. The camp used ‘Scratch’, a block-based coding language, making learning interactive. Sarayu quickly grasped the basics and started creating her own games. She designed a game called ‘Math Race’, where players solve math problems to move their characters forward. It made learning Math fun, and engaging. Now, Sarayu is eager to learn more programming languages to create impactful games and applications that can help students learn Math in a fun way. She even helps her friends understand coding, showcasing her leadership skills. Initiatives like the Solar Community Hub are giving hope and skills underprivileged students like Sarayu to pursue programming and computer science. Sarayu’s transformation from a computer novice to an aspiring coder is a testament to the success of this initiative.
