Upskilling Rural Governance through Digital Literacy

In Keelakidaram Village, Tamil Nadu, the Panchayat staff relied on manual record-keeping and had minimal digital skills. That changed when a digital literacy workshop under the Solar Community Hub program was conducted for the Data Entry Staff of the Village Council in Kavakulam.

Through the training, staff members learned how to operate computers, use spreadsheets, manage digital records, and upload Panchayat data to government portals. These skills helped them work more efficiently and transition away from traditional registers.

Village President T. Meenaal shared that the staff is now comfortable using the internet and digital tools. Encouraged by the transformation, the village council now plans to create its own website to promote transparency and community participation.

This story reflects how digital literacy programs like Solar Community Hub can empower local governance systems and help rural communities adapt to the digital age.
